About The UMBA Scholarship

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. The United Missionary Baptist Association (UMBA) is delighted about your pursuit of higher education. UMBA offers a limited number of scholarships to students in member churches to help meet a portion of college costs. May God’s Grace and Peace be with you.

Requirements

Scholarship Eligibility

  • A graduating Senior in High School or a rising Sophomore in College.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Current and engaged member of a UMBA Church in good financial standing.
  • Possess good character as seen by his/her Pastor or Church Leader.
  • Community engagement participation.
  • A citizen of the United States of America.

Application Requirements

The application must be completed in its entirety.

The written essay must be typed, double spaced, and with correct sentence structure. The essay should be at least 100 words and no more than 250 words.

The topic of the essay is provided by the Scholarship Committee annually. This year, the essay topic is: “How will achieving your educational goals make an impact for the greater good in your church and the community where you live?”

Submission Process

**Application period: March 1- May 31, 2025**

Collect the Following

  • High School or College transcript.
  • Copy of College acceptance letter. (High School Seniors only)
  • Three letters of Reference (Teacher, Church Leader, Character Reference from someone other than a family member)
  • ACT/SAT Scores (these will be weighted in the case of a tie between two students) 
  • Essay (100-250 words)
